We got in touch with the Iranian dancer, who now has made Istanbul her home, to know more about her journey and what dance means to her.
It is so surreal to know about all those people and professionals who make sure to give it their all in order to make their mark in all that they ever choose to do in their careers and endeavours in life. What has turned even more heads around them is the resilience they have shown in moving forward on their paths and becoming their best versions in everything they do in their journeys. We couldn’t help but notice how Mikaeil Alizadeh did the same in the world of dancing, becoming one of the finest dancers from the land of Iran.
We got in touch with her to know more about her journey to inspire many other budding talents across the world.
- From Iran to Istanbul, please tell us why?
Well, I am an Iranian native who has always felt fascinated by all things artistic, and dance was one of them. I did not even realize when I fell in love with dancing and turned it into my profession. However, after facing a few threats for being a dancer in Iran, which apparently does not conform to the norms set by society for women in Iran, I had to move base to Istanbul to continue my career as a dancer.
- A lot is happening in Iran right now with several protests; what do you think about that?
Well, I think these anti-government protests will bring out the good in the country as I believe that these protests will bring an end to the cruelty that, unfortunately, has been there for years in Tehran. While staying in Iran, I would teach secret dance lessons and perform secretly. However, in 2015 I moved to Turkey to have a safer place to continue my passion for dancing.
- Tell us about your dance experiences in Turkey.
It has been great so far. My first performance was for the biggest Iranian festival in Istanbul. My dancing skills and talents have also given me a chance to dance for big artists.
- What dance means to you?
For me, dance is love and life both. My whole existence, I believe, comes from dancing. Dance is what I wish to do all my life, spreading more smiles and joy.
- Any upcoming projects?
Yes, I am currently working on a new dance video them called Women Life Freedom and planning to continue growing my dance academy as well.
Mikaeil Alizadeh (@leo_bellydancer), aka Leo, is excited to work on many new projects in the near future.
