Rapper Alix Lone is a rising star. In the seventh grade, he penned his first rap, and ever since then, he has been making music that is a reflection of his experiences. Rap has affected Alix since a young age, thanks to her exposure to the music of rappers like Andre 3000, Frank Ocean, and Drake. His music’s approach has always been greatly influenced by his tremendous respect of lyricism and narrative in music. Alix was motivated by the notion that he could write music that would elicit strong emotions in listeners. Let’s have a face-to-face conversation with him to learn more about his job and experiences.
When did you start to get interested in music?
ALIX: I wrote my first raps in like 7th grade and recorded them on a laptop computer with no mic just the standard computer built in mic ever since then it’s been in me
Which is the part you enjoy the most about music?
ALIX: Seeing what I thought of in my head. My ideas and thoughts being played out loud to all different kinds off people and they relate to what I’m doing and thinking
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… In which aspects has music helped you?
ALIX: So I struggled with getting feelings out and across. I’m not a talker, I hate talking on the phone so text me lol but it was a release a no judgement release cause the mic don’t talk back lol
Who are your idols?
ALIX: I don’t necessarily idolize people I just don’t think it’s healthy for you and the person involved. We are all human and we breathe and bleed the same, BUT I definitely look up to the musical talents of Andre 3000 & Frank Ocean for sure.
If you didn’t like music, what would you like to do?
ALIX: I would be in film I love watching movies and seeing different scenes. I enjoy watching how they are filmed, the lighting, the color grade, the camera work all of it.
Do you consider that nowadays there are more or less opportunities for new artists? Why?
ALIX: I think it’s more opportunity but on the same hand I think that the opportunities are also given to the wrong artist not all but some lol
What would your idyllic life as an artist be like?
ALIX: I’d like to wake up to a nice view of the city get a cup of coffee and say “hmm what do I want to do today” lol
